Inmate Text App
If you have a family member who is currently in prison, the best method to keep in touch with them is texting with incarcerated individuals through an inmate texting app. These apps are designed to be in compliance with prison regulations which allow family and friends to send messages, photos, video calls, eCards and money to their trust accounts at prison. In addition to these messaging apps, there are numerous federal inmate apps that provide additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
JPay, for example allows family and friends to transfer money directly into an inmate's trust account, as well as videos, emails, photos, and electronic cards. They can also create personalized postcards using their own images. It's a safer, more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular texting application for inmates is GettingOut. It offers "simple, safe communication" between inmates and their loved ones. The app is available at selected correctional facilities and allows prisoners to upload pictures and message family members and friends on their tablets. Inmates pay $0.25 per message and their loved ones pay data costs to access them (but they are not explicit images). You can also use the GettingOut application to share photos on Facebook or Foursquare and check-in on Foursquare and then include a video in the YouTube upload.
